In 1764, Pierre Laclede Liguest and his 13-year-old scout, Auguste Chouteau selected the site of St. Louis for the King of France. Because of the location was near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, it was a perfect location as a fur trading post. Since that time, St. Louis has evolved and developed into the diverse and interesting city it is today.
