Silk Scarf Collection: Annie Malone

  • $45.00

The Lineage & Legacies collection celebrates iconic women with deep ties to St. Louis, whose enduring contributions to culture, entrepreneurship, literature, and civil rights continue to inspire generations around the world. Originally born in Illinois, Annie Turnbo Malone moved to the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood of St. Louis in 1902 to continue growing her door-to-door beauty business. By 1918, the newly established Poro College would become a cultural & economic hub for African Americans in St. Louis. She is recognized as one of the first Black female millionaires in the US, and dedicated much of her life to both local and national philanthropic causes.

Original artworks handmade by local artist Dail Chambers, a St. Louis-based multidisciplinary artist exploring history, ancestry, and our relationship to the land. Her work has been featured many times elsewhere, including the New York Times, PBS, and the Smithsonian.
